Factors To Consider When Designing An Air Duct System Supply

In this article, I’m going to be sharing with you some of the important factors to consider when designing an air duct system supply.

Before I begin sharing with you the details of the air duct system supply, there is something you need to know about them.

What is an air supply duct system? An air supply duct system includes different ducts connected to facilitate the supply and removal of air in a ventilation system or air conditioning system.

The moment you want to design the air duct system supply, there are some things that you will have to consider for this duct system to work efficiently.

Without these factors, your air duct system supply will never work effectively.

With that much said, let me share with you these factors.

Factors to consider when designing an air duct system supply

1. Duct fitting.

When designing the air duct system supply, we should put this into consideration.

Duct fitting plays a big role when it comes to the efficiency of air supply in an air conditioning or ventilation system.

A fit duct in the system facilitates a good supply of air.

A poorly constructed air duct system that has excessive turbulence tends to reduce the efficiency of the air supply in that air duct system.

Do you know why this happens?

When air is moving into the air duct system, as it moves through the ducts, it will experience some resistance due to poor construction of the duct fittings and its design.

The air supply of the duct system is properly constructed and fitted to eliminate the excessive turbulence in those ducts.

2. Duct tightness.

The duct tightness is one of the design factors that should be taken into consideration when designing an air duct system supply.

If the duct is not tight enough, then it will cause noise as the air circulates in those ducts and the efficiency of the air supply will be affected as the ducts won’t keep the air inside.

When the duct is not properly tightened, this will cause very unpleasant noise in the building.

You have to understand that the air that will be moving through those ducts will be under high pressure and this will make them cause movements of those ducts.

Also, this will end up affecting the overall performance of the duct system since the ducts will be moving up and down.

The pressure of air within the ducts will be less and the circulation will be poor due to this reason.

So, we should well secure the ducts against the places that we lay them out to prevent this from happening.

Without an efficient supply of air from the duct system, the ventilation or air conditioning system will not be effective.

3. Duct installation.

When designing an air duct system supply, you should also think of the process of installing it.

The way you will design the air duct system will affect the whole process of installation.

You don’t want to design an air duct system and fail to install it because of complicated parts or how you have connected it.

The design of the air duct system should facilitate the ease of installation. If there is anything in that duct system that will make the installation difficult, we should eliminate it.

So, we should put all measures into consideration when it comes to designing it.

One will have to think of where it’s going to be installed, what will be needed during installation, and things that will bring challenges when it comes to installing it.

Designing a perfect air duct system supply and not being to install it is a waste of resources and time.

4. Easily accessible for maintenance.

The design of the air duct system supply should facilitate the ease of its maintenance.

At one point or another, the duct system will need to be cleaned, and repaired for any leakages and some tightening.

If the air duct system supply is inaccessible, then this will mess up the maintenance.

And if it won’t be maintained, there is no way it will work effectively, and its main purpose of it will have been interfered with.

So, when designing the duct, one should ensure that it will facilitate ease of maintenance.

This stems from where it’s installed to how it’s structured.

If the duct is installed in an inaccessible place, then it will be impossible to maintain it when needed to.

Also, if the structure of the air duct system is complicated, then there is no way one will be able to maintain it easily.

Maintenance of the air duct system should be something easier since you are not constructing it for the second time.

5. It should be of the required size.

The size of the air duct system supply is something that should be taken into consideration.

Earlier I talked about the ease of installation. If the air duct system is too big to fit in the space intended then this will not be effective.

Installation of that air duct system supply will be impossible unless it’s redesigned.

And this will be a waste of time and resources. So, when designing the air duct system supply, one should ensure that it’s of the right size and it will fit in the required space.

Also, the air duct system supply should not be too big or too small as this also affects the volume of air that it’s supposed to convey.

So, one should take all measures of the volume of air to be supplied by the duct, the space that it’s needed to be installed and the required size before going ahead and designing it.

6. Selection of the right air duct system supply material.

The type of material you select for your air duct system supply plays a big part when it comes to the efficiency of its supply.

You have to select air duct materials that are the best for the air duct system but also affordable.

So, depending on the system you want to design, you should think of materials that won’t bring many problems once they are installed.

If you pick poor duct materials, then you will have the problem of noise in those ducts system. You will constantly need to maintain them and don’t forget the humidity problem you might face.

The only way to avoid these problems is by picking the right air duct material that will not allow any energy losses or bring the problems I have talked about in the above paragraph.

Some of the materials used are silicone, PVC, rubber, and fibreglass which are best at reducing the sounds of the ventilation or air condition system and reducing energy losses.

Sheet metal (galvanized steel) is amazing in trapping dust and other particles and is very easy to clean, so you have to pick the ones that serve your specific needs.

That is all about the design of the air duct system supply, if you have any questions leave your comment.
